“Scratch” Perry Continues To Ride On A Megawave Of Dub Conquering
By Phyllis
Pollack
With over fifty albums to
his name, Jamaican born Grammy-winning reggae legend Lee “Scratch” Perry has
released Scratch Came, Scratch Saw, Scratch Conquered on Megawave
Records, joined by notable guests Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards
and groove master George Clinton. Throughout this album, produced by John
Saxon for State Of Emergency Limited, the Upsetter, who has enigmatically
recorded under numerous pseudonyms, follows a musical tradition that is
distinctly all his own. “Scratch” continues to experiment, interweaving
diverse styles and rhythm patterns, resulting in his own brand of reggae
artistry, through the use of his unique pallet of sounds, and often
idiosyncratic lyrics. Read more here----------->>>

Goodbye to Runar Juliusson
By
Charlotte
It is a big lost for Iceland
and Keflavik that Runar Juliusson passed so suddenly away last week.
Runar Juliusson was a a
symbol and big legend on Iceland for rock'n'roll.
Our Icelandic friend Hjalti
met Runar many times, the last words he said to Runar was we have to turn
our back together and stand close because of pretty hard times at Iceland at
the moment, and he agreed.
Runar was playing at Rainn
and was reaching for his guitar backstage getting ready to perform, when he
felt some ill in the heart, and he felt down, an ambulance was called and
Runar was declared dead at the Landspitalinn Hospital in Reykjavik.
Hjalti met him a lot, and he
was a very good bass player and learned a lot from Bill Wyman. He was a big
fan of The Rolling Stones.
Here are two videos from
youtube.com:

Rest in peace Runar.

The
Rolling Stones Paint It Black On Upcoming Shine A Light DVD/Blu-ray
By PHYLLIS POLLACK
Hollywood, California
Even if you have already seen Shine A Light in a theater, there is an
upcoming DVD/Blu-ray package slated for release that is still worthy of buying.
So you think you’ve seen the Light? Think again.
When Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese’s Rolling Stones concert
documentary Shine A Light was released on April 4, its theatrical run in
both Imax and conventional theaters was limited to a select number of theaters
due to its documentary format. Therefore, countless fans still have not yet seen
this critically acclaimed film, documenting performances from the largest
grossing concert tour of all time. However, they will finally be able to do so
when Shine A Light is released on DVD/Blu-ray on July 29.
Because I had seen Shine A Light prior to its theatrical release, and had
written reviews on it, in addition to the fact I had both attended and written
extensively about the Rolling Stones press conference that was held in New York
for the film, and I had interviewed the Rolling Stones on the red carpet (which
was actually black) at the NY premiere, I wanted to go full circle, and review
what is in the DVD package, aside from what is included in it that was seen in
its theatrical release. Therefore, the focus here will be on the package’s added
features, because I have already reviewed the theatrical release it contains. Read

Thank
you Father Chuck Berry
Text by André Ribeiro - Photo by Karen
Amaral
Chuck Berry is not only the father of rock and roll. For Rolling
Stones fans, he is Keith Richards's main influence, the man who gave
the old pirate the foundations so that he could create his own style
when playing the guitar.
Stones Planet Fanzine witnessed Chuck Berry's show at Pepsi On
Stage, in Porto Alegre (Brazil), on June 21. It was a rock and roll
celebration that brought together many fans of the great rock and roll
artists. The Rolling Stones fans were also there.
During the concert, which lasted for about one hour, Chuck played
several of his hits, including some of the songs the Rolling Stones
also recorded, such as Carol, Little Queenie, Roll Over Beethoven,
Around and Around and Honest I Do.
Chuck Berry Jr., who accompanies his father by playing the guitar,
made a comment about the show that thrilled all the fans from Porto
Alegre: "This was the best show in the Brazilian tour," which included
concerts in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba. "This probably was
the best show we did during the 35 years I've been playing with Chuck
Berry," agreed the bass player Jim Marsala.
Thank you Chuck Berry!
Tim
Ries and Bernard Fowler enchant Brazilians
By André Ribeiro
On Saturday, June 21, Tim Ries and Bernard Fowler did an unforgettable
show at Chateau Montevidéu, in Campos do Jordão, near São Paulo, in
the Southeast region of Brazil. It was a single gig for 250 guests
with the sponsorship of Tim and LG. Brazilians had the chance to see
the Rolling Stones Project for the first time. Tim Ries has performed
in several countries between 2005 and 2007 with this project.
The climax of the show was Bernard?s performance of Wild Horses.
People gave him a big hand. Tim and Bernard played with the Brazilian
musicians from the Michel Freidenson Trio. At the end of the show, the
local musicians played samba, and Tim accompanied them by playing
clarinet.
"Thank you very much for the chance to play in Brazil, for the
opportunity to play with great musicians and for being able to mix
wonderful rhythms," said Tim thankfully before leaving the stage.
After the gig, Tim and Bernard talked to the fans, took many pictures
with the them and signed hundreds of autographs.
The show was so successful that the promoters of the event are
considering the possibility of inviting Tim Ries to promote his new
album, Stones World, during several new concerts in Brazil. The CD,
Stones World, must be released between the end of September and the
beginning of October.
Set list of the show: Honky Tonk Women, Baby Break Down, Wild Horses,
Street Fighting Man, Satisfaction, Ruby Tuesday and Jam Session (samba).
